How to create and share experimental protocols?

FizziQ is an open system that helps teachers create their own experimental protocols, either from existing protocols that they can modify, or by creating new protocols. They can then share these protocols with their students or the educational community.

How to download a protocol?

The student or teacher can download a protocol from a text file or in the form of a QR code into the application. in the protocol tab, press +, then select create a protocol, or scan a QR code. Note that the protocol is entirely contained in the QR code and there is no need for internet to download it.

Where can I find protocols?

The site contains more than 30 examples of protocols that can be downloaded and modified by teachers. On social networks, there are FizziQ protocols with the hashtag #fizziqlab. The community is encouraged to share its protocols so that other teachers, in France but also abroad and in developing countries, can use smartphones as educational tools.

How to create or modify a protocol?

The teacher can create a protocol from scratch or use an existing protocol and modify it to suit their needs.

1. To create a new protocol: from the application, press + in the protocol tab, then "Create a new protocol"

2. To edit an existing protocol: select the protocol to modify in the protocol list, then press the pen icon at the top right to modify it.

3. To create or edit a protocol from a text file: open a QR code generator in your browser (search google for "QR code generator") then follow the rules of the FizziQ protocol format described below.

What is the FizziQ format of protocols?

Protocols are structured as a text file containing less than 1200 characters. The FizziQ format is defined by fields separated by the "//" character combination.

The fields are as follows and the information must be placed in the correct order:

1. The sequence begins with the code: "Fizziq"

2. The title in text format

3. The purpose of the protocol in text format

4. The different steps of the protocol classified and separated by the separator "//"

Example protocol

I want to create a protocol whose title of the experiment is "The sound", the subtitle "Work on amplitude and frequency", and two steps "Choose a musical instrument for which you want to analyze the sound" then "Which FizziQ instrument can you use to measure the fundamental frequency of a note on your instrument?".

In the text field of the "QR Code" generator available on the internet, type the following text:

"Fizziq // The sound // Work on amplitude and frequency // Choose a musical instrument for which you want to analyze the sound // Which FizziQ instrument can you use to measure the fundamental frequency of a note of your instrument? "

Then generate the QR code with maximum resolution, and import it with your FizziQ application (+ in the protocols tab, then "scan a QR code")

How to share a protocol?

FizziQ also allows you to print or share the protocol in text format or in QR code format.

1. To share a QR code digitally, select the protocol, then press the share icon at the top left and select "share a QR code"

2. To share a protocol on paper, select the protocol, then press the share icon at the top left and select "share in PDF"

3. To share a protocol digitally in text format, select the protocol, then press the share icon at the top left and select "share in Text format"

Can I download a protocol in another language?

FizziQ allows you to translate a protocol into the language of your mobile phone. Select a protocol, press the share icon then "Translate a protocol".

How to share a protocol with the educational community?

Teachers can share a protocol on social media using the hashtag #fizziqlab. They can also send their protocols to the email address to be distributed on the site. The submission must include the QR code, an illustrative image (optional), and the author's name or nickname (specify "anonymous" if you do not want the protocol to be assigned). reserves the right to publish the protocol or not.

Are there any rights to the FizziQ protocol format?

The FizziQ protocol format is not proprietary. We hope to see the emergence of a database of experimental protocols that can be used for multiple applications.

Why use QR codes?

FizziQ uses QR code technology as a means of exchanging experimental protocols. The QR code system was invented in 1994 by Masahiro Hara of the Japanese company Denso Wave. The use of QR codes is free of rights. The QR code has several advantages that guided this choice for FizziQ. The first is that the technology allows the exchange of small text files (less than 4 kb) without using the Internet. In many countries, and often also in schools, pupils do not have access to the internet. The experimental protocols are generally small files. On the other hand, the technology is very widely used, especially for payment in many countries and all smartphones are equipped with a camera. There are many free tools on the internet to generate a QR code online.

What are the limits of the QR code?

Commonly used QR codes can contain up to 4296 alphanumeric characters. However for use in FizziQ, we recommend that the size of the protocol, including separators, not exceed 1200 characters.
