Built around the ESP32 microcontroller, FizziQ Connect harnesses its full capabilities to offer teachers a simple, low-cost solution for Computer-Assisted Experimentation (CAE). Below we describe 10 features that we believe are particularly valuable for both teachers and students.
1. Open Architecture
FizziQ Connect is designed to accept commercial sensors, widely available thanks to the growth of robotics, sufficiently precise for scientific use, and very affordable. FizziQ Connect recognizes a wide variety of sensors. New sensors are regularly added based on user requests.
2. Custom Sensor Integration
FizziQ Connect also allows you to configure new analog sensors. The configuration menu lets users define the characteristics of an analog sensor and add it to the system. This flexibility enables FizziQ Connect to be used for student projects or with unconfigured sensors.
3. Radio Mode
FizziQ Connect’s Radio mode enables simultaneous data broadcasting to an unlimited number of devices. This mode facilitates smooth real-time collaboration, enabling collective experiments in classrooms or lecture halls. Compared to Connect mode, which limits the connection to one device but with higher data exchange speeds, Radio mode offers a much more open and collaborative approach without the complexity of multiple configurations.
4. Touchscreen Display
FizziQ Connect’s color touchscreen interface simplifies getting started with the tool. Users can view data directly on the screen. The intuitive menu-based interface provides access to all the device’s features. The FizziQ Connect screen also allows you to visualize data graphically.
5. Transparent Communication Protocol
FizziQ Connect uses an open communication protocol, offering seamless integration with various sensors and software. This non-proprietary protocol allows other software or applications developed by teachers to receive and use data from FizziQ Connect.
6. Easy Firmware Updates
FizziQ Connect’s firmware can be easily updated via an Internet connection directly from the device without needing a computer. The device automatically recognizes the last Wi-Fi network used.
7. Advanced Analysis and Capture Features
We have integrated many features into FizziQ Connect that allow you to customize data acquisition, visualize graphs, or optimize battery life. These tools will be enhanced as we continue developing the product and will be available in new firmware releases.
8. Complete Autonomy
With an integrated battery, FizziQ Connect operates with full autonomy for 3 to 15 hours depending on the sensors used. This autonomy allows the device to be used outdoors or during field trips. Options are available to conserve battery by reducing screen brightness or putting the device in sleep mode.
9. Data Recording
FizziQ Connect can record up to 5,000 data points independently of a smartphone connection. Data is saved to non-volatile memory and can be recovered if the device shuts down during use due to low battery. In the near future, we will integrate the ability to export this data to the device’s SD card in CSV format.
10. Integration with the FizziQ Ecosystem
FizziQ Connect integrates seamlessly with the FizziQ app, enabling smooth interaction between the device and mobile devices. This integration simplifies data collection, analysis, and sharing. Export of locally stored data is directly recognized by FizziQ.
And Finally… Very Low Cost
FizziQ Connect is built on the M5 Stack device, widely used in industrial and agricultural applications. Its extensive capabilities, durability, and very low cost have allowed us to create a robust, scalable, and very affordable CAE solution. Moreover, its open architecture allows FizziQ Connect to be connected freely and easily to other data acquisition applications and provides access to the vast selection of sensors available on the market.
