Privacy Policy – FizziQ Junior
Last updated: 9 September 2026
This policy describes the data processed by the FizziQ Junior mobile application (hereinafter "the Application"), available on Google Play and the App Store, and how that data is protected. It applies to all versions of the Application from version 2.3.1 onwards.
1. Publisher and data controller
The Application is published by:
FizziQ Labs (formerly Trapeze.digital: the company changed its name; the App Store and Google Play listings may still mention Trapeze.digital)
Société par actions simplifiée (SAS) with a share capital of 5,000 euros
5 rue de Mouchy, 78000 Versailles, France
Registered with the Versailles Trade and Companies Register (R.C.S.) under number 852 348 770
Contact for questions about personal data: info@fizziqlab.org
When the Application is used in a school setting, the school or the teacher who creates the student accounts and collects their lab notebooks determines the purposes of that processing. The publisher then acts as a processor for the hosting and transmission of the notebooks, within the meaning of Article 28 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
2. What the Application does
FizziQ Junior is an educational application for primary and lower secondary school students. It lets them carry out science activities using the sensors of the tablet or phone, record their observations in a digital lab notebook and, if the teacher wishes, send that notebook to the teacher.
The Application works with two profiles:
- Student profile: created by the teacher directly on the device, without an e-mail address or phone number.
- Teacher profile: an optional online account, created with an e-mail address, which allows the teacher to receive the students' notebooks and archive them.
The Application can be used without any online account. In that case, no data leaves the device.
3. Data processed
3.1 Teacher data (online account)
| Data | Purpose | Legal basis | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| E-mail address | Account identifier, password reset | Performance of the contract (use of the service) | Until the account is deleted |
| Password | Authentication (stored in encrypted form by Firebase Authentication, never in plain text) | Performance of the contract | Until the account is deleted |
| Teacher code | Identifier generated by the Application and given to students so they can send their notebooks | Performance of the contract | Until the account is deleted |
| "Receive teaching tips" preference | Sending of teaching information by e-mail, only if the box was ticked | Consent, which can be withdrawn at any time | Until consent is withdrawn or the account is deleted |
| Account creation date | Account management | Performance of the contract | Until the account is deleted |
3.2 Student data
Student accounts are created by the teacher on the device itself. The information entered (first name, last name, username, password) is stored only in the local memory of the tablet or phone. It is not transmitted to the publisher or to any server.
We recommend that teachers use a pseudonym or the first name only as the student's username, especially if the notebooks are later transmitted.
3.3 Lab notebooks
The lab notebook is created and stored locally on the device. It may contain text entered by the student, drawings, photos taken or chosen by the student, sensor measurements and tables of results.
A notebook is transmitted to a server only when the student or the teacher explicitly chooses to send it to the teacher using the teacher code. The following is then transmitted:
- the content of the notebook;
- the name of the notebook and its creation and modification dates;
- the student's identifier in the Application (username chosen by the teacher and technical identifier).
Received notebooks are visible only to the teacher who holds the corresponding teacher code. The teacher can view them, export them as PDF, archive them in their online space and delete them.
Retention: transmitted notebooks are kept until they are deleted by the teacher or until the teacher account is deleted.
3.4 Teaching activities
The Application downloads teaching activities (instructions, illustrations, examples) from the publisher's servers. This content contains no personal data, and viewing it is not tracked individually.
4. Device sensors and permissions
The Application uses the device's sensors as scientific measuring instruments. Measurements are processed locally, in real time, and are not transmitted to the publisher. Only the values that the student chooses to insert into the notebook are recorded there.
| Permission | Use in the Application | Transmission |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Take photos for the notebook, study colours and light | None, except for a photo inserted in a transmitted notebook |
| Photos (system picker) | Choose an existing image to illustrate a notebook. The Application uses the system photo picker and does not access the whole gallery | None, except for a photo inserted in a transmitted notebook |
| Microphone | Measure sound level and sound frequency (sound level meter, frequency meter). No audio recording is kept or transmitted | None |
| Location | Show the position on a map and compute ephemerides (sunrise and sunset) | None |
| Bluetooth | Connect to FizziQ Connect external sensors | None |
| Activity recognition and motion sensors | Pedometer, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass | None |
| Storage (Android 9 and earlier only) | Save PDF exports to the Downloads folder | None |
Each permission is requested when the corresponding feature is used and can be refused or withdrawn in the device settings; only the feature concerned then becomes unavailable.
5. No tracking, advertising or profiling
The Application contains no advertising, no audience measurement tool, no tracker and no third-party development kit for advertising or analytics purposes. It does not set cookies. No data is sold, rented or disclosed to third parties for commercial purposes. No automated decision-making or profiling is carried out.
6. Hosting and processors
Online data (teacher accounts, transmitted notebooks, archived PDF exports) is hosted on Google Firebase services (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage), provided by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) and Google LLC.
Data may be stored in data centres located in the European Union. Where a transfer outside the European Union takes place, it is governed by the standard contractual clauses adopted by the European Commission and by Google's commitments under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Google acts as a processor and does not use this data for its own purposes. The applicable terms are available at https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
No other processor has access to the data.
7. Security
- All communications between the Application and the servers are encrypted (TLS).
- Teacher passwords are managed by Firebase Authentication and are never stored in plain text.
- Access to transmitted notebooks is restricted to the teacher who holds the corresponding code by server-side security rules.
- Data stored on the device is covered by the protection offered by the operating system (lock code, storage encryption).
8. Your rights
In accordance with the GDPR and the French Data Protection Act (loi Informatique et Libertés), you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object to and port your data, as well as the right to withdraw your consent at any time to the sending of teaching tips.
For students, these rights are exercised by the holders of parental authority, most often through the school. Local data (accounts and notebooks that have not been transmitted) can be deleted directly in the Application by the teacher or by uninstalling the Application.
To exercise your rights, write to info@fizziqlab.org. We reply within one month. You may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (www.cnil.fr).
9. Deleting the teacher account
You can request the deletion of your teacher account and of all associated data (e-mail address, teacher code, received notebooks, archived PDF exports):
- from the dedicated page: https://www.fizziq.org/en/fizziq-junior-account-deletion/;
- or by e-mail to info@fizziqlab.org, stating the account's e-mail address.
Deletion takes effect within 30 days. It is final: received notebooks cannot be recovered afterwards. Data stored locally on students' devices is not affected by this deletion and remains under the teacher's control.
10. Children
FizziQ Junior is designed to be used by children under the supervision of a teacher or a parent. The Application never asks a child to provide an e-mail address, a phone number or any other contact details, and does not allow a child to create an online account. The only data about a child that may be transmitted to the publisher is the data contained in a notebook that the student or the teacher chooses to send, and it is accessible only to the teacher concerned.
11. Changes
This policy may be updated to reflect changes in the Application or in regulations. The date of the last update appears at the top of the page. In the event of a substantial change, a notice will be displayed in the Application or on the website.
