FizziQ Connect
ExAO for all
What is FizziQ Connect?
FizziQ Connect is a ExAO (Computer-Aided Experimentation) box developed by the creators of FizziQ and tested in partnership with the La main à la pâte Foundation. It allows you to collect, visualize and analyze data from commercially available external sensors using the Grove standard, and share them with FizziQ or any other compatible acquisition software. This solution is simple, scalable and extremely cost-effective.

How is FizziQ Connect innovative?
Typically, ExAO (Computer-Aided Experimentation) solutions are built around proprietary standards. There are several reasons for this choice, including technical and commercial reasons, but one of the disadvantages is that it does not allow for the flexibility and innovation needed by the educational community. FizziQ Connect stands out from this approach by offering an open architecture: a well-established technological platform, sensors from various commercial brands, non-proprietary communication protocols, and free and open-access acquisition software. The benefit for the user: a scalable platform and a very low acquisition cost.
What Are the Advantages of FizziQ Connect?
Ease of Use: FizziQ Connect can operate independently or interact with the FizziQ and FizziQ Junior apps, or any other compatible software, on smartphones and tablets via Bluetooth. Its intuitive interface, featuring a full-color touchscreen, allows for quick setup and encourages student engagement.
Maximum Portability: Compact and lightweight, FizziQ Connect can be easily transported and used both in the classroom and outdoors, fostering limitless scientific exploration. Students can conduct experiments in the lab as well as in real-world environments.
Open Compatibility: Thanks to its open architecture, FizziQ Connect is compatible with a wide range of non-proprietary sensors using the Grove standard. This allows teachers to choose the sensors best suited to their needs without being limited by closed or expensive systems.
Technological Innovations: We have integrated numerous innovations into this small device, such as the Radio broadcast mode that allows an unlimited number of receivers to connect, as well as power-saving features and automatic data transfer modes.
Student Engagement: Tested with teachers and students in partnership with the La main à la pâte Foundation, FizziQ Connect promotes interactive learning and motivates students to engage actively in science through its intuitive interface and wide range of practical applications.
Cost: FizziQ Connect has been designed to offer a highly affordable solution, enabling schools to acquire more equipment and expand access to scientific experimentation for students. Its low cost is achieved through the use of standard components and free software such as FizziQ.

Where to order FizziQ Connect?
FizziQ Connect is available for purchase from our services (contact juliette@fizziqlab.org), or from our distributor A4 Technologie.
The list and price of boxes and sensors can be viewed here.
FizziQ Connect allows you to connect commercial sensors such as the M5 Stack, Seed Studio, or Df Robot sensors. You can order the sensors from us or from A4 Technologie, but you can also use sensors you already own or order them from another retailer without any compatibility issues.
Other Questions You Might Be Asking...
1. Are the proposed sensors as accurate as specialized instruments?
An eCO₂ sensor like the SGP30, which costs around ten euros, will never offer the same precision as a specialized sensor costing 500 euros. However, for classroom experimental use, more affordable sensors provide sufficient accuracy in most cases.
FizziQ Connect works with a wide variety of sensors, each with specific characteristics described in their technical documentation, which are independent of FizziQ Connect itself.
2. What is the "Radio" broadcast option?
Usually, Bluetooth connections are point-to-point, meaning that two devices are connected and only those devices can exchange data — this is the Connect mode.
In Radio mode, an unlimited number of receivers can listen to the data broadcast by FizziQ Connect.
This allows a teacher to share their measurements with the entire class, which students can view or record.
This is a unique innovation of FizziQ Connect, already compatible with FizziQ Junior and soon with FizziQ.
3. What is the battery life of FizziQ Connect?
FizziQ Connect is equipped with a rechargeable battery, whose autonomy depends on sensor usage and data recording frequency.
On average, it can operate for several hours before needing a recharge, making it ideal for classroom or outdoor experiments.
4. Does FizziQ Connect only work in the classroom?
No. FizziQ Connect is designed for both classroom and outdoor use.
Thanks to its portability and Bluetooth connectivity, it can easily be taken on field trips or used for outdoor scientific activities.
5. Is FizziQ Connect easy for students to use?
Yes. FizziQ Connect was designed to be intuitive and easy to use, even for beginners.
The interface of the FizziQ app, combined with the device’s touchscreen, allows teachers and students to get started quickly.
This makes experimental science more accessible and engaging.
6. Is FizziQ Connect compatible with all smartphones and tablets?
FizziQ Connect is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
As long as your smartphone or tablet supports Bluetooth, you can use the FizziQ app to visualize and analyze the data collected by FizziQ Connect.
7. Can FizziQ Connect work with a computer?
At the moment, FizziQ Connect can only be connected to a tablet or smartphone.
However, we plan to make it compatible with computers through a web app in the future.
8. Which scientific disciplines can benefit from FizziQ Connect?
FizziQ Connect can be used in multiple scientific disciplines, including:
-
Physics: study of forces, motion, acoustics, electromagnetism.
-
Chemistry: monitoring chemical reactions, analyzing gases and liquids.
-
Biology: measuring physiological and environmental parameters.
-
Earth Sciences: monitoring climate, soil, and air quality parameters.
9. Does FizziQ Connect require special training for teachers?
No. FizziQ Connect is designed to be easy to use without any advanced technical training.
Its intuitive interface and the FizziQ app make the user experience simple.
However, educational resources and tutorials are available to help you make the most of the tool.
10. Where can I find the user manual?
The user manual in PDF format can be downloaded by clicking on the download icon.
11. What are the advantages of FizziQ Connect compared to traditional data acquisition systems (ExAO)?
FizziQ Connect stands out for its:
-
Open architecture, allowing the use of non-proprietary sensors.
-
Affordable cost, making experimentation accessible even in schools with limited budgets.
-
Portability, enabling experiments both in the classroom and outdoors.
-
Ease of use, ideal for teachers and students of all levels.
12. How many sensors can be connected to FizziQ Connect?
There is no limit to the number of I2C sensors that can be connected, but the FizziQ Connect screen can only display four measurements simultaneously.
To connect multiple sensors, you can use an M5Stack multi-port hub, ensuring that each sensor has a different I2C address.
13. What type of display does FizziQ Connect have?
The display is a color touchscreen with a resolution of 320 × 240 pixels.
The user interface uses this screen to present clear and intuitive menus and information.
14. How are software updates performed?
Updates are carried out via Wi-Fi connection, directly from the FizziQ Connect unit — no computer required.
The user simply needs a secure Wi-Fi network with a password.
15. Which educational levels can use FizziQ Connect?
FizziQ Connect can be used by students of all levels, from upper elementary (Cycle 3) to university.
For younger students (Cycle 3), the Radio mode is recommended, as it requires no manipulation from the students and is available through FizziQ Junior.
16. Can I still use an external connection without FizziQ Connect?
Of course!
FizziQ Connect is an additional option for teachers who want a dedicated, easy-to-use platform.
However, those who prefer to connect a microcontroller such as Arduino or micro:bit to FizziQ can still do so — and we encourage it, since students learn a great deal by building their own interfaces.
